blessingway ceremonies

A Blessingway/Mother Blessing ceremony is a traditional Navajo ceremony honoring a pregnant women and helping her with her preparation for birth by surrounding her with support and encouragement.

Women gather and carry out several rituals and bring much love and positive energy to the pregnant woman. The ceremony can incorporate any religious or other beliefs of the pregnant woman.

Guests are asked to bring a candle, a bead (to contribute to a birthing necklace) and a piece of wisdom, a blessing or poem to share about birth, motherhood or being a woman.
